LOLJK’s News Years Resolution! (and social experiment)

Hey ladies.

Good day gents.

And finally. Where my dawgs at?

I’ve approached my esteemed colleague Mr. Joseph Reinisch regarding the future of LOLJK and what we potentially wanted to get out of this mish-mash of BS and dick jokes.  And besides a larger super secret LOLJK side project that is already under way we didn’t really have any outright goals or plans for the blog/site in general (besides, you know, trying to post on a regular basis. good luck with that).

HOWEVER.

I believe I have come up with a New Years resolution and goal that is both an interesting study in the social sciences regarding the web AND well, pretty fucking fun.

Starting TODAY (1/6/10 - first time i typed that. weird) Joey and myself have until December 31 to successfully manufacture a popular internet meme.

What’s an internet meme you ask?

Well I honestly have no interest in taking the time to explain it to you. Read this link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme

But I assure you. You have laughed or been made uncomfortable by one.

Now on to the important stuff..

THE RULES

  • The number of attempted memes is unlimited.
  • We cannot slightly alter a meme that is already in existence (i.e. Instead of “Rick Rolling” someone, you “Dexy’s Midnight Runners Roll” them)

TERMS OF VICTORY

- The Meme in question must fulfill all criteria to count as a success in this experiment

  • Re-posting/alteration on “legitimate” sites (4chan, something awful,collegehumor)
  • Alteration or parody of our meme by third parties

BONUS: Confirmation of place in public consciousness and pop culture (meaning seeping into a reliable news source or referenced on television)

Sounds like quite a task.  These are just the preliminary rules and terms of victory.  I’m sure they will change in the next few days before we really start to go to it.

If you have any suggestions for changes to the rules or terms of victory please leave it in the comments. Or better yet, if you have an idea for a meme why not toss it out there.

That’s all for now kids.

I’ll be seeing you. On tha interwebs.

- Kyle

Oh yea. I started a twitter account. Shucks.  Feel free to follow and get my deep, philosophical take on the world at any time of day.
